THE BLURB:
"$" is a dollar bill serial number divination routine.
HERE IS THE EFFECT:
"$ Is a dollar bill serial number divination.
What sets this apart is that there is absolutely no switch
of the bill.
The spectator is handed a stack of bills, genuinely mixes
them and selects any one.
The mentalist, who has been turned around the entire time,
is still able to divine the serial number on the bill they
are holding!
*Includes real us currency
*All of the serials numbers are very different and not even
close to each other
*Includes a method and gaff for using borrowed bills
*Perform close-up or stage
*All the bills are examinable"
Here is what Jheff from Marketplace of the Mind had to say
about it:
"This is an incredibly clever idea. It's rare to get hold of
a solid piece of stunning mentalism that can always be in
your pocket and always ready to go. The bills can be
examined and re-set in seconds. Each set is handmade,
unique, and ready-to-perform, and that makes this product
incredibly fair for the value. I really like this and highly
recommend it."
MY COMMENTS:
Bryn certainly could have done this as an e-book and had
folks make these up themselves. As it is, this effect is
ready to go right out of the package. Bryn also
graciously includes extra material to make additional
gimmicks should the one you get wear out with age.
This is one of those effects that you may be thinking won't
impress anyone because they'll think you memorized the
serial numbers on all your bills. Frankly, that's
impressive, too. But if you pull the bills from your
ordinary, everyday wallet, then why would they think
anything other than that these bills are ones you've gotten
throughout the day? Sure, I had the same initial
impression, but when I performed it a few times that concern
appeared to be "magician's guilt" and melted away when I saw
the stunned looks on faces I'd just performed for. This
includes teenagers, adults, and even my young sons.
Also, even if they do suspect you memorized the bills,
they won't have a clue as to how you knew which bill
was selected.
Bryn gives you five pages of instructions on single-sided,
8.5" x 11" pages, the bills, the gimmick, and extra material
to make additional gimmicks. He also includes a prop for
switching bills, if one is more comfortable doing that, but
it isn't necessary. One other thing. The blurb mentions no
switching, but it doesn't mention that there is NO
MEMORIZATION on the part of the performer. Sure, you
could memorize the serial numbers. You don't have to,
though. As I said, you could do this routine minutes after
reading the instructions (although you really should script
and rehearse it first).
I need to also mention that the blurb says that the
spectator "mixes" the bills. The spectator certainly
handles the bills, but it's not a mix like a shuffle. It
appears to the spectator as mixing, but it's really not.
The word "mixing" is accurate so far as the participant is
concerned, but may be misleading.
A WORD ON USING NON-U.S. CURRENCIES:
As I played with $, a couple of alternative handlings came
to mind that I liked very much. It also occurred to me that
these handlings would work quite well with non-U.S.
currency. Bear in mind, that Bryn takes advantage of a
little known feature on U.S. bills that one may not be able
to use with non-U.S. currency. Also, you'll have to make up
your own crib sheet, but it's easy to make, as you'll see.
Anyhow, I wrote up these handlings and sent it Bryn. Those
who purchase it now will get a copy of those handlings. If
you purchased it already, contact Bryn and he'll send it to
you.
I'll just end by reiterating my testimonial from the blurb
(since I know many readers just skip to my comments before
reading the blurb): This is an incredibly clever idea.
It's rare to get hold of a solid piece of stunning mentalism
