Larry Becker and Lee Earle's
CRUISE CONTROL
$80
Suggested Retail Price $89.50
THE BLURB:
Four audience members combine feataures listed in several
travel brochures to create an imaginary dream cruise,
including a total of all the costs for their unforced choice
of ocean line and destination, hotel stay-over, shore trips,
and guided activities.
The also freely select the month in which they travel, grab
a random handful of assorted 'travelers cheques' to
determine how much spending money to take along, and even
state their seating preference for shipboard meals!
You unfold a typewritten letter "from your tavel agent"
which has been in full view. The letter confirms their
embarkation time, seating preference, and printed in huge,
bold type, the total cost of the dream cruise!
After your hurricane of applause, you call attention to a
P.S. from the travel agent which is read aloud, suggesting
an amount of 'mad money' to take on the cruise.
Remember the travelers cheques? They are counted for the
first time: their total exactly matches the amount suggested
in the letter:
Cruise Control includes:
Four full color cruise brochures (plus one extra, as a
backup), each is custom designed and professionally printed
on durable stock. The four brochures, their options, and
prices are all absolutely different.
Fifty full color Travelers Cheques' in $20, $50, $100, and
$500 denominations (so detailed and authentic someone might
be tempted to cash them!)
Multiple copies of the travel agent letter for you to use!

MY COMMENTS:
Larry and Lee have done it again and created a wonderful
routine for mentalists that's a lot of fun to do! As is
stated in the instructions, "Cruise Control is based upon
principles used in several of Larry and Lee's previous
effects. Sort of a combination of Game Show, Szechuan
Sampler and Casino Light...on steroids." The themes of
those previous effects are game shows, chinese food, and
gambling. And, even though the methodologies are similar,
the theme of cruise vacations makes this routine much
different and just as highly entertaining.
Everything is included in one large envelope. You get six
pages of instructions, five full-color bruchures, two
letters and a stack of traveler's cheques. To perform, you
do need to make copies of the letters and supply your own
letter-sized envelopes. Also, the ad claims that it is a
"quick reset." Quick, in this case, means longer than
instant, but still only a few minutes. The re-set mostly
involves sorting the travelers' cheques.
I do have one important point concerning this routine. In
it, the performer is building one single dream vacation from
four very different cruise brochures. The letter from the
travel agent confirms and describes that one built dream
vacation. This is completely illogical. You don't normally
pick and choose features from among different vacation
packages from different companies. This is a weakness of
the routine, but one that experienced mentalists can easily
overcome. Larry and Lee have even provided a suitable
patter justification as a starting point. I only point this
out because one needs to pay attention to this, and account
for it, so this routine can be as strong and as effectively
successful as it should be.
Even considering this, the routine is solid and very
entertaining, the props are exceptionally made, and it's
just plain fun to do. I've already performed this for a
group and it went over extremely well. I definitely
recommend this product.
