Far Sight

THE BLURB:
One of Devin Knight's most guarded secrets from his
professional act is now being made available.

A truly long distance, hands-off mental card effect that
seems totally impossible. An effect that not only baffles
lay people but many magicians as well.

Performer invites anyone to help. He says he will try to
subliminally force that person to choose a certain card.
Magician proceeds to deal 10 or 12 cards face up on the
table. He points out that most of these cards could be
psychological choices. For example, one card may be the only
club on the table. Another card may be the only odd value,
another may be the only red court card, etc. You tell the
spectator you will try to make him take a certain card while
you are 15 to 20 feet away, with your back turned!

You walk to the other side of the room or stage and turn
your back to the spectator. You instruct them to look over
the cards and remove one. There is no funny counting, the
cards are face up on the table and he just removes any one
he likes. The spectator then covers the remaining cards so
they can't be seen. This is all done while your back is
turned. The person then covers his FREELY chosen card with
his hand concealing it from view.

While still across the room, the magician picks up a magic
marker and writes something on a piece of cardboard and sets
it aside. You then proceed to tell the person what card you
tried to influence them to take and WHY they decided on it.
Only then does the spectator show the card they chose. It is
the same one you wanted them to pick! Finally for a kicker
finish, the cardboard is turned around and the card the
person chose is written on it in large letters!

MY COMMENTS:
This is an incredibly strong presentation and the package
presented is definitely worth the price. To make this
yourself, you'd have to spend at least $50-$60. But you get
the necessary cards, plus a bandanna for the participant to
cover the selected card with, a sticker to construct part of
a gimmick, and a 14 page 8.5" by 11" stapled instruction
booklet that contains many photographs.

I have three reservations about this. First, if your
eyesight is not very good, you may have a problem with this.
Second, "POSITIVELY NO MARKED CARDS ARE USED." This is not
quite correct. It implies that by looking at the cards
there are no extra markings on it. That's true. However,
the cards are marked insofar as there is something about
them that will tell you exactly what card is being chosen.

Finally, I ask . . . why? As a colleague pointed out to me,
you can use a regular deck of cards, instead of a few
special cards. The participant picks any card and, with the
aid of a popular mentalists' gimmick, reveal that you had
written the chosen card's name on a business card. With Far
Sight, the difference is that you can write the card big and
bold from the other side of the room so everyone can see.
Is that so much of a difference? Well, that's up to you, of
course. If you don't use the popular mentalists' gimmick
that I'm referring to, this method may suit you just fine.

Besides my reservations, this is nicely packaged, the
instructions are incredibly detailed and well-thought out
(I do enjoy reading most of Devin Knight's instructions),
and there's no question that this routine, no matter the
method, is an audience-pleasing fooler.
