MY COMMENTS:
I carry this with me always (except while going through
airport security). It's a wonderful prop that can be used
for many different purposes. What's nice about this
"self-turning" prop is that there are no gimmicks or
anything extra. The key does everything and can be freely
examined. It really is just a key, but it's a key that's
manufactured to be weighted in such a way as it makes the
"move" easier to do.
Mostly, I like to bring it out to get attention. I'll just
take it out, lay it on my hand, and let it do its stuff.
When folks start looking at this odd key turning slowly over
in my hand they start to ask questions. I tell them the
truth that I'm making the key move with my mind. Which, to
a point, is true after you've practiced it awhile. I'll
even let the participants try it. Some of them can do it.
Some of them can't. Whatever happens, I play off it and
continue either letting them play with the key or use the
key as a springboard for showing some more mentalism
demonstrations.
Haunted Key is a classic of mentalism and PK work. E.
Raymond Carlyle has a wonderful presentation with it on his
"Carlyle Touch" video. And there are more ideas, including
one that involves having two keys and letting the spectator
do it, in the thin companion booklet, which is really too
fair a price to pass up. Unless you really can't fit any
type of PK work into your repertoire, and because this prop
is quite inexpensive, I'd rank this as a must-have apparatus
for the mentalist.
